Gambling sites set to be affected by UK crackdown on data compliance

The 2025 online tracking strategy has been released by the Information Commissioner's Office. The goal of the data watchdog is to make sure that the 1,000 most popular websites in the UK adhere to tracking regulations.

In an effort to make sure that publishers are granting users control over their tracking, the Information Commissioner's Office says it will look into adtech compliance. The organization also plans to offer guidance on legal requirements and hopes to incentivize publishers to use more privacy-friendly online advertising formats. When consent management platforms don't automatically support compliance, it intends to alert publishers.

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has unveiled its 2025 online tracking strategy, focusing on ensuring the UK’s 1,000 most-visited websites comply with tracking regulations. The ICO will investigate adtech compliance to guarantee that publishers give users control over tracking. It plans to provide guidance on legal requirements and encourage privacy-friendly advertising formats. Additionally, the ICO will notify publishers when consent management platforms fail to support automatic compliance, aiming to strengthen user privacy and accountability across online platforms.
