10-Jack offsuit or Ace-Nine suites, that's a tougher call than it looks! Both have their pros and cons:
10-Jack: That's a decent pocket pair to play with, lot of outs to improve. The Jack's a solid kicker and 10-J is considered an "auto-call" in a lot of spots. But pocket pairs can also lose bad, and 10-J ain't the best of hands. It's playable but not fantastic.
Ace-Nine suited: Now that's a juicy hand, especially if spades or hearts. Suited connectors have a lot of kick to them and an ace is always welcome. But that ace is a littleweak, and you never know if it's gonna hold up or not. Nines also don't inspire a ton of fear in the other players.
This hand comes down to your reads and instincts. 10-Jack may win more at showdown, but A9 could yield bigger pots on the way if people think it's a solid hand. Either play could be right.
I'd probably lean A9 just cause of the suit and ace, but 10-Jack ain't too shabby either if the money's right and the table's loose. The % play is what matters most, not any single hand. This game's all about making the right plays over and over.
