The GST statutes were amended by Parliament on Friday, making it possible to impose a 28% GST on the total amount of wagers made at casinos, horse races, and internet gambling. Without debate, the Lok Sabha approved the changes to the Central and Integrated GST legislation. However, states will also need to amend their respective GST Acts through legislative procedures in order for the 28% levy to go into force. The Rajya Sabha delivered the Bill to the lower House by Friday afternoon, paving the way for its passage.
