After losing at the World Cup, Qatar fires coach Sanchez.

World Cup hosts After the team's disappointing World Cup, in which they failed to earn a point from their group games, Qatar confirmed on Friday that national coach Felix Sanchez had been fired with the expiration of his contract. The Qatar Football Association announced their choice "not to renew Felix Sanchez's contract as Qatar's national team's head coach. We appreciate his service and send him our best wishes for the future."

The Spaniard's most recent contract with Qatar expires on December 31, although his future has been in doubt following the Gulf nation's failure to go past the first round of the World Cup despite spending tens of billions on preparation. Prior to the tournament, the team spent months sequestered in training facilities in Europe. This strategy has since drawn criticism.
