Standardbred trainer Anthony Beaton has been suspended for two years by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario over concerns about the welfare of his horses.
The suspension was imposed after an investigation revealed evidence of Beaton allegedly using a whip excessively on a yearling, causing injury to the horse.
The AGCO stated that such actions violated rules related to misconduct prejudicial to the best interests of racing and acts of cruelty or neglect to a horse. Beaton has the right to appeal through the Horse Racing Appeal Panel.
