In order to deter future attempts at gambling, his proposed bill, which has the backing of the Covington County District Attorney, would increase the existing penalties for gambling-related offenses—which are currently classified as Class A misdemeanors—to Class C felonies.
Additionally, the proposal called for harsher punishments for repeat offenders, threatening them with two to twenty years in prison and a fine of up to $30,000.
