Alberta makes landmark move for gaming expansion

Alberta has been confirmed as the latest Canadian jurisdiction to investigate creating a regulated online gaming sector, according to attendees at the Canadian Gaming Summit.

Despite being the sole regulated gambling operator in the province, Alberta gambling Liquor and Cannabis, which operates the PlayAlberta brand, will not supervise the province's licensed operators.

Alberta might follow Ontario's lead in avoiding this issue by having iGaming Ontario administer and regulate individual gaming operations in the province independently of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
