In an effort to develop and implement an online gaming strategy modeled after Ontario, the province of Alberta has opened consultations with First Nations, as well as with currently operating land-based casinos and the Racing Entertainment Center.
The only authorized source for online casino games in the province at the moment is Play Alberta, run by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis. Some brands, which make up an estimated 55% of the market, operate in a legal gray area, much like the situation in Ontario prior to 2022.
