Despite the enormous ticket sales brought on by the previous $2 billion Powerball prize, the Massachusetts National Lottery warned on Tuesday that its overall economic year sales may put it in some financial jeopardy.

Lottery Interim Manager Mark Bracken reports that as of Sunday, fiscal 2023 lotto revenues are $22.5 million lower than financial 2022 sales. This covers overall sales of instant plus scratch tickets, but it's an increase over the $60 million difference between the financial years of 2022 and September of 2023.

It seems like the Powerball jackpot caused a surge in ticket sales, but it didn't make up for the overall decline in lottery sales. It's fascinating to see how this plays out over time. It would be interesting to see how the lottery is dealing with these changes.
