Amazon named in social casino app lawsuit

The largest online retailer and marketplace in the world, Amazon, has been called as a defendant in a lawsuit that aims to curtail the website from allowing free-to-play social casino apps.

In his federal lawsuit, a resident of Nevada claims that Amazon is working with social gaming apps to defraud users who develop an addiction to the interactive slots. His lawyers argued that by forming partnerships with social casino companies, Amazon is taking advantage of the innocent-sounding free-to-play business model.

Online retail giant Amazon has been named in a lawsuit alleging that it played a role in the illegal promotion of social casino apps. The lawsuit, which was filed in California, alleges that Amazon allowed the apps to be listed on its app store despite the fact that they were not licensed by the state's gambling commission. The lawsuit further alleges that Amazon profited from the sale of in-app purchases made by users of the apps. Amazon has yet to respond to the lawsuit, but it has previously stated that it takes its responsibility to comply with local laws very seriously.
