Africa? That's a mighty big continent. Poker's popularity there would depend a lot on the region and local culture. Some places, like in some of the larger cities or where there's an American expatriate presence, poker might be gaining a bit of traction. But on the whole, poker's still considered a bit of a foreign game in most parts of Africa.

Traditional card games run deep in African culture. Things like Slapjack, Desert Spit, Bid Whist and more. Those types of simple spitting card games, betting style, are more the norm. Poker introduces an element of uncertainty, mathematical thinking and big bets that doesn't quite mesh with most African gamblers' style. The potential's there though, if the interest develops.
