There haven't been any major new casino resorts opened in the lower 48 states in over a decade. Some states have prohibited casino gambling altogether, while others have limited the number of licenses issued. Existing casinos also strongly lobby against new competitors. There is clearly demand, but a multitude of political, economic, and commercial barriers.
Though Las Vegas and Atlantic City remain popular destinations, Americans seem willing to travel further or gamble online as options have expanded. New properties would face an uphill battle gaining market share. Still, the allure of the Las Vegas-style casino resort experience endures. Whenever those barriers finally fall in a new locale, pent-up demand assuredly will emerge to perhaps build yet another mega-casino cathedral of chance. The game is still afoot.
