Only a few weeks ago, an annual party gone wrong resulted in fire damage to Mar del Plata, Argentina's famed Casino Central. As the heat from the incident was dissipating, a fresh fire sprang out in the shape of a strike by unionized workers against casino management and gaming authorities. Last Friday, the Union of Workers of Casinos, Lotteries, Agencies, and Hippodromes started a demonstration in front of the casino. It was the outcome of a rivalry that had been simmering for more than three years, sparked by a corruption accusation brought against the government of Buenos Aires. Both foot traffic entering the venue and automobile traffic on the roadway in front of the casino were impeded by the demonstration.
