Atlantic City officials dismiss road-narrowing claims from casinos

The town's five casinos claimed that the narrowing of Atlantic Avenue from Boston to New Hampshire avenues would make it more difficult for emergency vehicles to operate. However, officials from Atlantic City denied this in a legal brief last week.

In what is being referred to as a "road diet," Atlantic City's main corridor is currently being narrowed. There will be two vehicle lanes instead of four as a result of the $24 million project.

The government of Atlantic City claims that by enlarging the sidewalk, the road narrowing will increase pedestrian safety. The casinos at Bally's, Caesars, Hard Rock, Resorts, and Tropicana claim that the road diet will worsen traffic.
