Australia captain Sam Kerr has called for better funding for women's soccer in the country funding after historic World Cup performance.

The Australian women's soccer team, called the Matildas, had their best ever finish at the recent FIFA Women's World Cup. They made it to the semifinals for the first time before losing to England. The captain, Sam Kerr, was named the top player of the whole tournament after scoring 7 goals.
Kerr said after losing that the team needs more money to support girls playing soccer from a young age all the way up. She pointed out that other sports get more funding in Australia than soccer. Kerr hopes that more people watching the World Cup final will convince the government to invest more money in women's soccer. This could help the Matildas keep improving and do even better next time with more training and facilities. More funding is needed to develop the sport and give girls more chances to play.
