Australia implements mandatory pre-verification for online gambling

Beginning today, Australians registering for online wagering accounts will first go through age and identity verification by operators before being allowed to conduct transactions on their accounts. This is a big step towards promoting responsible gambling. The former 72-hour window for identification verification has been replaced with this one.

This measure would enable providers of gambling services to recognize and keep out individuals who are underage and those who have self-excluded through BetStop from using their services.

This new rule of verifying people's identity and age before allowing online betting accounts makes sense. While it may be an inconvenience for some, protecting minors and those who want to curb their gambling is important. As long as the verification process isn't too onerous, it shouldn't stop legal adults from enjoying a flutter if they choose.
