Australian government will reject blanket ban on TV gambling ads

Local media reports state that the Australian Labor Government will likely reject a complete prohibition on gambling-related TV advertising.

Within three years, the proposed ban would have prohibited any kind of gambling advertisement on radio, television, newspapers, or the internet. This came after a parliamentary investigation that was led by the late Labor member Peta Murphy.

At this time, between 5 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., gambling advertisements during live sports are not permitted from five minutes prior to play until five minutes following. Ads are permitted prior to and following play, as well as during commercial breaks, after 8:30 p.m.
