The prime minister of Australia stated that many of the people opposing gambling ads, in his opinion, really wanted to outlaw gambling altogether, which would be a violation of people's rights. He emphasized that while efforts should be directed toward preventing children from being exposed to the influences of gambling and safeguarding the integrity of sports, adults should have the autonomy to make their own decisions.
