For the EFL Cup match versus Liverpool, they placed Grealish, Foden, and Stones on the bench, however all three were introduced in the second half. Pep Guardiola is currently not a fan of Kalvin Phillips. He received criticism for returning from the World Cup with a few extra pounds on his person. Due to an injury, Julian Alvarez is currently not being used, despite his World Cup heroics. Ruben Dias is also out. Tyler Adams is sidelined for Leeds United, but the team is optimistic that goaltender Illan Meslier will be okay after only recovering from severe illness.
