The National Lottery Heritage Fund has granted Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery £192,697 in development funding so that they can start the process of moving to Northumberland Hall.
A second round of consideration will involve the preparation of comprehensive proposals for a final decision on full funding of £2.5m.
The project, which is called Heritage, Creativity & Community in the heart of Alnwick, will help the museum hire more staff members and increase its capacity to handle particular specialized tasks.
