The decision was made in the midst of a betting scandal involving the head coach of Alabama. During an NCAA baseball game between Alabama and LSU in Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park in May, suspicious betting was reported to Ohio gaming officials. The Ohio Casino Control Commission was able to prove that the coach had a conversation with the gambler who ultimately chose to back Alabama to lose using security footage.
