Increasing the minimum legal age for gambling to 21 in Belgium is a significant step towards curbing problem gambling among young people. By aligning the age limit for all types of gambling activities, the government aims to create a more consistent and effective regulatory framework to protect vulnerable individuals.

The initiative led by Green MP Stefaan Van Hecke and approved by the Chamber of Representatives demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing the potential harm associated with gambling. By setting a higher age limit, the legislation seeks to reduce the risk of young adults developing gambling-related issues and experiencing financial or psychological problems as a result.

It is commendable that the new laws have been finalized and are set to be strictly implemented, emphasizing the commitment of the Belgian authorities to safeguarding public health and well-being. Hopefully, these measures will contribute to a safer gambling environment and lead to a reduction in the number of problem gamblers in the country.
