Bet365 receives 400k fine from Kansspelautoriteit

Hillside New Media Malta, the parent company of Bet365, has been fined €373,600 (approximately $440,000) by the Dutch gambling regulatory authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA). The fine was imposed on the company for advertising to young adults, which is a violation of Dutch gambling laws. This is not the first time that Bet365 has run afoul of regulators, as the company has previously been fined in both the UK and Australia for similar violations.

The KSA has been cracking down on unlicensed gambling activity in the Netherlands, and has already fined five operators this year for offering their services without a license. The regulator has also recently implemented a new licensing regime for online gambling operators, which is expected to come into effect in early 2021.

In other gambling-related news, a Texas resident has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in illegal gambling activities. The man was convicted of running an illegal sports betting operation in Texas, and was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison. Meanwhile, in Nevada, officials are seeking to raise the threshold for reporting jackpots in order to reduce paperwork and administrative burdens on casinos.

Overall, these developments highlight the ongoing efforts of regulators to crack down on illegal and unethical gambling practices, while also seeking to streamline and improve the regulatory environment for licensed operators.
