Betclic and Winamax fined by French Gambling Authority

Eight online sportsbooks have been fined between €5,000 and €150,000 by the Regulatory Authority for French Gambling for exceeding the maximum payout ratio of 85%.

The fines relate to the operators' actions in 2022, which culminated in the French football team making it to the FIFA World Cup final in Qatar. French operators told the regulator that they were not always able to adhere to the payout limits because of the high wagering levels during that year, which saw record activity.

Eight online sportsbooks in France were fined between €5,000 and €150,000 by the French Gambling Regulatory Authority for exceeding the 85% payout limit in 2022. This breach occurred during the FIFA World Cup, when high wagering levels, driven by France's successful run, led to difficulties adhering to the payout limits. The fines reflect the operators' failure to manage payouts within the regulatory limits during this peak period.
