Bluff-catching with 22 - a tricky balance

Has anyone noticed that catching bluffs with 22 can go either way? On one hand, hitting top pair seems too good to fold. However, since villains bluff less with such an unimpressive hand, calling risks facing a superior hand. The wiser player stays observant, confident enough to muck the bad Beatles song title, yet cautious about chasing unlikely flopped pairs. So, when outrageously checked to on the end, what version of 22 tends to yield a decent pot vs get steamrolled?

I think it is important for players to consider the strength of their opponents and the likelihood of them holding a stronger hand when deciding whether to call or fold with a hand like 22. It is also important to remain observant and make informed decisions based on the overall situation of the game.
