Bookmakers claim new gambling bill will facilitate progress of black market betting

The new Gambling Regulation Bill from the government, according to bookmakers, will negatively affect consumer protections and aid criminals in promoting illegal gambling.

Restrictions on promotions, such as giving away free bets, won't apply to black market operators, according to the Irish Bookmakers Association, which will make them more appealing and allow them to gain market share.

Representatives of prominent charities, sports organizations, and bookmakers have all voiced concerns about the bill's possible unfavorable effects.
