Brazil banks wary of spate in sports betting

Ahead of the country's January regulated betting launch, Brazilian sports fans are still heavy bettors. Although international operators interested in investing in Brazil are showing a great deal of interest in this trend, experts worry that the money could be better spent elsewhere.

The situation is being closely monitored by the financial sector in Brazil. By way of its tax contributions, the legalization of betting is anticipated to contribute to some economic growth. License requests from gaming companies are predicted to add $620 million to the economy.
