Brazil is still working to increase the availability of lawful gambling there. To that end, a number of initiatives are currently in the works, and Senators are currently resurrecting one that might result in the emergence of additional casinos throughout the country. A measure to permit the operation of casinos in vacation resorts was passed by the Senate at the end of March. The previously introduced legislation was unsuccessfully tried to approve before. Senator Angelo Coronel, who earlier served as the initiative's rapporteur, is attempting to revive it. This time, more backing will be required for the bill to survive.
