Brazil tightens bookmaker regulation that gives state veto on ad promotion

For betting operators to advertise at the Maracana Stadium, official approval from Loterj, the state lottery of Rio de Janeiro, is required.

In the 20-year concession of the Maracanã, which Flamengo and Fluminense wish to extend, the State of Rio de Janeiro Government has inserted a contractual clause that gives them the right to veto any commercial exploitation of the property by betting operators without the consent of the federal government or the "Loteria do Estado do Rio de Janeiro."

I think Brazilian lawmakers have tightened regulation on bookmakers, giving the government more control over their betting activity. Among the new rules, the government can veto any advertising that promotes sports betting, including language used by the bookmakers. This adds to the list of restrictions already in place, such as a ban on sports betting during live broadcasts
