Brazil's sports betting tax rate is set at 12% after an attempt to ban igaming fails.

The CAE of Brazil has given its approval to Bill 3,626/23, confirming a reduced tax rate of 12% for sports betting in the country. This development comes after an unsuccessful attempt to exclude online gaming (igaming) from the legislation.

With the CAE's endorsement, the bill will now proceed to the Senate plenary for voting on 28 November. This crucial vote will determine the fate of both sports betting and igaming in Brazil. Any modifications made by the Senate to the bill text will necessitate a review by the Chamber of Deputies, which had initially approved Bill 3,626/2023 in September.

However, several senators, including Eduardo Girão and Carlos Portinho, expressed their opposition to the bill. Despite efforts, the inclusion of igaming in the legislation, which had been unexpectedly introduced in September, remains unchanged. T

he voting was originally scheduled to take place yesterday but was postponed due to a request made by the CAE. Senator Girão was among those responsible for this postponement, as stated by the Senate agency Senado Noticias.
