They say nothing is certain in life except death and taxes, but you can something else to that morbid list: Benny Glaser winning a 'COOP title at PokerStars. On September 12, 2023, Glaser helped himself to a ninth PokerStars World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP) title to go with his ten Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) victories. The acronym G.O.A.T. is banded around too loosely in poker, but Glaser is deserving of such status.
Glaser headed to Canada to grind the 2023 WCOOP, as the Canadian time zone is more friendly for grinding a busy schedule. Obviously not affected by the dreaded jet lag, Glaser started the series as he meant to go on, racking up final table appearances in his favored non-hold'em events.
A second-place finish in WCOOP 05-H: $1,050 PLO 6-Max on the opening day of the festival saw Glaser narrowly miss out on glory, although he did pad his bankroll with $26,157.
The mixed game superstar followed up that bridesmaid finish with a fifth place, worth $4,975, in WCOOP 10-H: $2,100 H.O.R.S.E, a sixth-place finish in WCOOP 14-H: $1,050 5-Card PLO8 6-Max for $7,397, and another runner-up finish, this time in the WCOOP 16-H: $1,050 FL Badugi 6-Max worth $10,418.
Glaser's ninth WCOOP title came in the WCOOP 16-M: $109 FL Badugi 6-Max, an event that attracted 178 entrants. Although the $3,550 Glaser reeled in is at the lower end of the prize scale, the fact it awarded the popular Brit his tenth WCOOP and 19th 'COOP victory is priceless.
There is no doubt in anybody's mind that this will be the only WCOOP Glaser wins in 2023.
