British Columbia lawyer agrees to 7-year ban over $8million embezzlement to fund gambling habit

A lawyer from British Columbia has acknowledged his wrongdoing and consented to a seven-year ban from practicing law. The lawyer took more than $8 million in client funds from his firm's account over a two-year period in order to support his gambling addiction.

In order to steal those funds, he further acknowledged providing a client with false and misleading information.

He committed the misappropriation in order to support his gambling. He either wagered the money that had been diverted directly or used it to settle debt that had accrued as a result of his gaming.
