California governor opposes Koi Nation and Scotts Valley casino projects

In a letter to the federal government, California's Democratic governor expressed his opposition to two tribal casino projects located in the state's wine country. He claims that these projects go beyond the legal boundaries of the "restored lands" exception.

Since 2016, the Scotts Valley Band has been requesting authorization for their planned $700 million casino resort in the vicinity of Vallejo. A $600 million project near Windsor is planned by the Koi Nation, which will be unveiled in September 2021.
