Any new casino construction in the southern Cambodian provinces of Kep and Kampot is prohibited, with the exception of the already-operating casinos and integrated resorts at Bokor Mountain. Century Entertainment's casino, run by Dara Sakor, is exempt from the prohibition.
The prime minister of Cambodia announced the prohibition.
In addition to seeking to "strengthen and promote cultural and religious preservation, ensure security, and improve order in tourist destinations," he stated that the provinces in question had banned casinos in order to "diversify investment in hotel and hospitality, tourism, manufacturing, industry, agriculture, trade, and special economic zones."
