Cambodian union leader detained for protest against NagaWorld casino

A woman union leader was given a two-year prison sentence by a Cambodian court on Thursday for organizing a strike against the biggest casino in the nation in opposition to the reinstatement of employees who lost their jobs as a result of Covid-19. Hundreds of Cambodian workers at the NagaWorld casino were let go. Chhim Sithar had long spoken in favor of their rehiring. She was initially taken into custody and accused of instigating at a protest location adjacent to the casino in January 2022.
