Cameroon U-17 squad decimated by age checking scandal

A number of players have failed age tests ordered by Samuel Eto'o, president of Cameroon's football governing body, forcing the Under-17 team to rush to field its team before the African Cup of Nations qualifiers begin. MRI screening was insisted upon by the ex-Barcelona and Inter Milan striker, which resulted in a disaster at the squad's training camp in Mbankomo, on the outskirts of Yaounde. Out of the initial 30-member group, 21 failed the tests.

This debacle is simply crazy, and this has exposed a practice which has been going on for too long in African football. Etoo was very brave to conduct this exercise despite the inevitable opposition, it must be said
