The world's 93rd-ranked Thanassi Kokkinakis began this week. The Australian was forced to participate in this Adelaide International using a wild card. He was placed 171st about this time last year, but after making it all the way to the semifinals of this competition, he quickly began moving up the rankings. After that, he won the second Adelaide tournament but dropped out of the Australian Open in the opening round. In the four Grand Slam competitions contested last year, Kokkinakis only managed to win one match. He had a poor year in 2022, winning just one of his final seven games. In the first round of this competition, he defeated Maxime Cressy after a difficult battle.
