Can you explain how the discard tray affects the dealer's strategy?

I would appreciate if someone can explain in simple terms how the discard tray holding exposed cards can affect the dealer's decision on whether to hit, stand, double or split. In my experience as a blackjack pro, I noticed the dealer scanning the discard tray at times before making a move but am not sure what information they are looking for and how it helps inform their strategy. Any tips here would be helpful for me and other players looking to improve our game. Thanks in advance!

The discard tray, also known as the shoe, is a plastic tray that holds the cards that have been played and discarded. The dealer can use the discard tray to estimate the remaining cards in play. This information can be used to make decisions about whether to hit or stand on their hand. For example, if the discard tray contains a lot of high cards, such as aces and face cards, the dealer may be more likely to stand on a soft 17 (a hand with an ace and a 6).

The dealer must shuffle the cards when they are at the end of the deck in the shoe or the cards in the discard tray. Casinos and games may use shuffles in different ways and at different intervals. Effective card counting becomes harder for players when there is frequent shuffling, such as after each hand.

The discard tray is where the dealer places cards that have been dealt. The cards in the discard tray are no longer in play, and the dealer cannot use them to form a hand. However, the discard tray can still affect the dealer's strategy.
