Can you give me an example of a hand where doubling down is not worth the risk?

An example of not doubling by dealer bust odds:

Hard 15 vs. dealer ace:

• More decks: Don't double. Lower bust odds mean risk of losing double bet outweighs chance of winning. Just hit to try improving hand.
• Fewer decks: May double if think dealer likely to bust. Higher bust odds make doubling worthwhile if win enough when dealer busts or you get good card. But with more decks, odds aren't high enough to justify the risk.

Whether to double or not depends on dealer bust odds by decks, not just the hands. With more decks and lower bust odds, doubling risks too much. With fewer decks and higher bust odds, doubling could gain more if odds of dealer busting/you getting strong hand are sufficiently high. But specific hands the adjustment applies to vary. The key is adjusting by how dealer bust odds change by decks.
