Cancer-battling immigrant blessed by winning $1,300,000 lottery jackpot

After winning the $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot, an immigrant who has been battling cancer for eight years feels fortunate.

The 46-year-old winner, who was born in Laos, purchased the winning ticket at the Plaid Pantry convenience store in Portland, Oregon, early in April.

According to Oregon Lottery officials, the win ranks eighth overall among US jackpot games and is the fourth-biggest Powerball jackpot in history. It also exceeds a $355 million jackpot from 2005 to become the biggest prize ever won in the state.
