Carmanthenshire experiences stark reduction in betting shops and bingo halls

According to a meeting, the number of bingo halls and betting shops in Carmarthenshire has decreased by almost a third over the past three years, indicating a move away from physical gambling and towards online gambling. Although council licensing officers acknowledged that almost half of those who participated in a consultation believed there were gambling-related issues in their community, they did not suggest any significant changes to the authority's gambling policy.

In contrast to 26 three years ago, the county now has 18 betting shops, bingo halls, adult gaming centers, horse racing tracks, and family entertainment centers, the licensing officer informed the council's licensing committee. Four less than in 2022, eleven of the 18 were betting shops.

The significant decline in betting shops and bingo halls in Carmarthenshire reflects a nationwide trend with complex implications. While this reduction might suggest a decrease in problem gambling and offer opportunities for town center regeneration, it also raises concerns about a potential shift to the more accessible online gambling, job losses, and the loss of social hubs for some community members.

Most of the people actually prefer to play on online gaming facilities and in this way they can make sure that they are indeed doing the things in a manner that is more easier for them and it allows for them to have smooth ways of playing on the gaming platforms
