Cedar Rapids casino project becomes more likely to be undertaken

The chances of a Cedar Rapids casino opening this week improved after state lawmakers dropped legislation that would have prevented the $275 million project from moving forward, west of the downtown area across the Cedar River.

Supporters claim that by creating jobs, tax income, and new entertainment and hospitality options, Cedar Crossing Casino will transform downtown Cedar Rapids. In contrast to the state-mandated 3% allotment, the group has committed to donate 8% of the casino's yearly gross gaming revenue to the Linn County Gaming Association for charitable purposes.

The prospects for the $275 million Cedar Crossing Casino in Cedar Rapids have significantly improved after lawmakers withdrew legislation that could have blocked the project. Set to be located west of downtown across the Cedar River, the casino is expected to revitalize the area by generating jobs, tax revenue, and new entertainment options. Notably, the operators have pledged to donate 8% of the annual gross gaming revenue to the Linn County Gaming Association for charitable purposes, surpassing the state-mandated 3% requirement.
