A Wuhan court sentenced the former Everton player and coach of China's national football team to 20 years in prison on Friday for bribery and match-fixing. He was accused by the prosecution of accepting over US$6.8 million in bribes while leading the national squad from 2019 to 2021. He would choose specific players for the Chinese team and assist specific teams in winning tournaments in exchange. In addition, he was charged with soliciting a bribe to secure the position of national team coach and with rigging games for the two Chinese league teams he managed from 2015 to 2019.
