Common mistakes people make when playing craps?

Some of the common mistakes I see newbies make at the table is that they try to get too fancy with their bets. Craps is simple, just bet pass/don't pass, come/don't come and the odds. The more you spread your money out, the more you stand to lose.

Some folks get emotional and start betting more when they're winning or try to "get their money back" when they're losing. Always bet with your head, not your heart.

I've seen plenty of people bet the "sucker bet" on five or nine numbers just because the shooter rolled a five or nine. But the dice don't care what was just rolled! The odds of making a five or nine now are the same.

A lot of new players also get distracted chatting with each other or watching what others are betting. Pay attention to what's happening at your own table, don't worry about the crapshooters winning or losing on the other side of the casino.

If you do get lucky and win a bundle, don't get overconfident and bet too much too fast. Taking it slow and maintaining discipline is how players win or lose in the long run. The casino always has the advantage, so keep that in mind each roll of the dice! Have fun but be smart. That's my philosophy after years of craps under my belt. Know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em. And always bet with your eyes open!
