My fellow law-abiding degenerate gamblers, upon which state-run lottery shall we pin our hopes and hard-earned paychecks? While all lotteries are losing propositions by design, some are slightly less sucky than others.
EuroMillions and Powerball offer the biggest jackpots but mediocre odds. MegaMillions at least boosts your odds to 1 in 302 million, slightly better than Powerball. But if optimized odds are your addiction, look to UK National Lottery (1 in 45 million) or German Lotto 6/49 (1 in 140 million).
Personally, I prefer Lotto 6/49 for the balanced mix of middling jackpots and odds. No coupon required either! While we’ll likely still return home just as broke as we left, at least we can daydream a bit more plausibly of ocean yachts and exotic retirements.
