Concerned legislators miffed over fundraising activities in new gambling bill

With revisions discussed in the House last night, several lawmakers have demanded that the Irish Gambling Regulation Bill return to the committee stage.

After it passes through, the bill will proceed to the Senate for additional discussion. It has been in the reporting stage since July.

Regarding the bill's ability to raise money in local communities, among other things, concerns have been voiced.

A bill that would have excluded charity draws from its application and exempted charitable organizations from its provisions—as long as their operations served the organization's exclusive purpose—was unsuccessfully attempted to gain this distinction.
