Court upholds German gambling regulator's payments ban

A case demonstrating the stringent nature of Germany's gambling regulations has seen the country's gambling regulator win court support for an international payment block.

A Swiss payment provider that was not identified was blocked by the Joint Gambling Authority of the States on the grounds that it was known to facilitate payments to unlawful gambling websites.

"The extensive involvement of the payment service provider in question in illicit gambling" was cited by the regulator. The block's extension, it added, has allowed it to react "quickly and effectively" to previously undiscovered involvement in illicit gambling.
