Diamond Sports Group loses assets in battle against Major League Baseball

Diamond Sports Group engaged in a multibillion-dollar wager against MLB over game broadcasting that ended in failure on Thursday. 42 teams from the MLB, NBA, and NHL were among the leagues whose regional broadcasting rights Diamond had acquired and added to its Bally Sports brand. However, Diamond got ahead of itself. The plan was to turn those contracts into direct-to-consumer digital streaming rights that would eventually incorporate sports betting. Along the way, it accrued debt totalling over $9 billion, but the digital contracts were never in place. MLB rejected the notion, which destroyed Diamond's goals and caused them to go bankrupt.
