Nah, that’s silly. Lotteries are businesses trying to make money just like any other company. If they donated some of their profits to “problem gamblers,” it would just cut into their bottom line and end up costing taxpayers more in the long run to fund the lotteries.
The truth is, you can’t legislate away gambling addiction. Those with a problem will always find a way to feed their habit, lottery money or not. The only real solution is education and voluntary treatment options. Requiring donations just creates unnecessary bureaucracy and wastage. If someone has a gambling addiction, the answer is personal responsibility, not forcing private companies to subsidize the addiction. That’s my two cents on that one!
