Poker's reputation's been some volatile over the years, like a poker game itself! It started as a respectable gentleman's game, but gained a shady rep when underground games and illegal gambling flourished. In recent decades though, it's cleaned up its act and gone mainstream. Now with shows, events, tournaments, sponsorships, and more, poker's a legit sport and profession.
Still, some folks look down their noses at poker, seein' it as little more than glorified gambling. And there's a seedy underbelly of underground games and match-fixin' that gives the game a rough edge. But to real poker players, we know it's a game of skill, not just luck. The best players rise to the top, just like in any other sport or business. Poker's reputation's come a long way, but it'll never fully shake that underdog, outlaw appeal. And that's just fine by me!
